Labiaplasty (Labia Rejuvenation) Surgery in Harrisburg, PA
Labiaplasty, also known as labia reduction, vaginal lip reduction, or labia rejuvenation, is a procedure performed to decrease the size and improve the appearance of enlarged, hypertrophic or asymmetrical labia minora. The enlarged labia may cause some women to experience discomfort like pinching or pulling during certain activities or with some clothing.
This procedure can greatly enhance the cosmetic appearance of the outer vagina giving many women greater confidence and self-esteem. This is especially important for women who are unhappy or embarrassed with the way their labia look. Often this problem affects sexual relationships and a woman’s ability to feel better about herself. This is a problem that is fairly common but most women are embarrassed to discuss with their physicians. Dr. de Ramón understands this concern and has handled patients with care and dignity. Labiaplasty procedures not only help with the external vaginal appearance, but women experience significant improvement or relief of symptoms.
What is labiaplasty?
Labiaplasty consists of making fine incisions on the sides of each labia (labia minora or inner lips) placed within natural folds and creases. The excess tissue is removed and the incision site is closed using absorbable sutures. Therefore, no suture removal is required.

Labiaplasty (Labia Minora Reconstruction Surgery) – What is normal and how do I talk about it?
Many women from their 20s to women in their 50s are not sure how their vagina should look, let’s discuss what’s normal. In most cases, a woman’s vagina (including the labia majora and labia minora) is normal because every vagina looks different. It is completely normal for your labia to look different from what you see online or even from one side to the other. So, stop measuring, looking in a mirror and asking your partner if your genitals are normal. They probably are.
Still, a growing number of women are asking their doctors about having labiaplasty to trim their vaginal lips. In fact, the most recent data available shows that labiaplasty procedures jumped 39 percent between 2015 and 2016, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS).
The labia majora (outer labia) are the outer lips that grow hair, and the labia minora (inner labia) are tucked inside those, putting them closer to your clitoris, urethra, and vaginal opening.
Labiaplasty typically is performed on the labia minora. Labia minora are much more sensitive than the labia majora, so women who have larger labia minora can experience problems.
Depending on their length, your labia minora can cause pain during sex if they get tucked into the vagina. They can also cause irritation or discomfort while wearing underwear or a swimsuit, being physically active, or even walking around and doing regular daily activities. In some cases, the labia are large enough to be noticeable in a bathing suit or tight-fitting clothes. If this is the case, there is nothing to be embarrassed about. Dr. de Ramon sees many women in the Harrisburg area for consultation regarding enlarged, or bothersome labia minora.
Is Labiaplasty different for Younger Women?
Younger patients often are doing comparisons of their vaginas online and may feel pressured by partners or emotionally uncomfortable with the appearance of their vagina. Labiaplasty can be performed on young women whose labia are no longer growing. Those wishing to have the surgery should also be assessed for maturity and emotional readiness.
Labiaplasty is a procedure performed in our in-office surgical suite and is done with mild oral sedation and local anesthesia. As society becomes more comfortable discussing previously “taboo” subjects, more women will likely come forward to discuss a labiaplasty. Do not be embarrassed or timid: Dr. de Ramón is experienced and compassionate about this surgery and patients have been thrilled with their results.
