Am I a Good Candidate for Breast Lift Surgery?
If you are bothered by the drooping or sagging of your breasts, frustrated finding garments that flatter your figure or are embarrassed to wear a bathing suit due to the shape of your breasts, you are a good candidate for a breast lift, also known as a mastopexy. You should be at a stable weight and have small to medium-sized breasts with good skin elasticity. Women with larger breasts can have a combination breast lift and breast reduction to achieve a beautiful outcome. We recommend that patients should be non-smokers.
What Should I Expect With Breast Lift Surgery?
Breast lifts are not a one-size-fits-all procedure. The best technique will depend on your body proportions and the size, shape, and condition of your breasts. Before proceeding, Dr. de Ramón will meet with you to determine a specific treatment to achieve your ultimate results with the lowest amount of scarring possible.
No matter what technique is recommended for you, you’ll find that breast lifts are usually performed as an outpatient surgery under general anesthesia. Dr. de Ramón will mark each patient pre-operatively for the location of incisions on your breasts to remove excess skin and reshape the breast mound to give it a more youthful position.
Sometimes, the nipples and areolas are repositioned or reduced in size as well to improve the breasts’ overall appearance. Once Dr. de Ramón is satisfied with the shape and contour, he will suture and dress your incisions. You will then be taken to a recovery room where the effects of the anesthesia can wear off.
What Is Recovery for Breast Lifts Like?
You should be able to return home the same day as your breast lift procedure. However, be sure to have a designated driver on hand. For the first few days, most breast lift patients experience mild pain around their incision sites and within the breast tissue. This pain can be controlled with oral pain medication. Swelling and bruising are also completely normal. Be sure to take it easy those first few days.
Patients at our Harrisburg, PA, regional clinic usually return to work in three to five days and are back to most normal activity and aerobic exercise in three weeks. There are usually no external sutures to remove, as Dr. de Ramón uses internal dissolving sutures. This produces far less scarring than older external suture techniques.
Dr. de Ramón has a specially trained medical staff available to offer personal care throughout your recovery process. You’ll also be given Dr. de Ramón’s personal cell phone number so that you can contact him if any problems or questions arise.
Are There Any Risks With Breast Lift Surgery?
Dr. de Ramón offers only procedures and services that have stood the test of time and are well accepted by the plastic surgical community. However, as with most medical procedures, there are potential risks and complications. The team members at de Ramón Plastic Surgery Institute want to ensure that you fully understand the risks involved in undergoing breast lift surgery before proceeding.
Dr. de Ramón has breast lift patients come in for a complimentary second consult to personally review these risks prior to surgery and answer any questions about the procedure or recovery. At this time, he will ask for informed consent, written by the American Society for Plastic Surgeons, so that you fully informed of what risks are involved with breast lift surgery.
If you have any questions either before or after your breast lift procedure, the team at de Ramón Plastic Surgery Institute would be happy to discuss your concerns with you.
