Brow Lift Procedures in Harrisburg, PA
Our foreheads and brows show a great deal of expression, and as we age, lines and wrinkles, sagging skin and low brows may affect our appearance. Patients may have friends and colleagues asking if they are angry or tired or they may look as if they are scowling. Many men and women are constantly engaging their forehead muscles in an effort to raise their brow which can further aggravate the problem. In some cases, these lines or furrows become permanent and can only be reduced through a brow lift procedure.
A brow lift corrects brows which are positioned too low due to aging or genetics. A brow lift can also smooth furrows and can even raise the eyelid skin to a more attractive position. Overall, a more youthful, awake and relaxed appearance can be achieved by undergoing a brow lift procedure. Brow lifts at de Ramón Plastic Surgery Institute are not like the old brow lifts that produced the “deer in the headlights” look. Dr. de Ramón is very careful in his examination and is selective in recommending this procedure. For the right patient, however, it can greatly enhance and rejuvenate their look.
In some cases, a brow lift is done in conjunction with eyelid surgery or a facelift. Other non-surgical options may compliment a brow lift such as Botox®, Restylane®, Voluma XC® or laser treatments.
Am I a good candidate for a brow lift?
Patients who choose to undergo brow lift surgery in the Harrisburg, PA region are often between the ages of 45-75. The presence of brow depression or a low brow is not always very obvious because of compensatory forehead muscle activation. However, Dr. de Ramón has performed this procedure on older patients with excellent results. Usually, patients are unaware of the problem, but rather are concerned with transverse forehead wrinkles. A brow lift patient must be in overall good health, be a non-smoker and have no history of keloid or hypertrophic scars.
What is the recovery like?
A brow lift procedure can be performed in our in-office surgical suite or as an outpatient at West Shore Surgery Center. This is determined based on the position of the brow, the amount of correction required and the time required for surgery. Patients should plan to take 7-10 days off work for recovery. Pain is mild and can be controlled with pain medication. There may be some bruising and swelling for up to 2 weeks after surgery. Each patient recovers differently, so Dr. de Ramón will work closely with patients to determine the time for the return to work. Dr. de Ramón has a specially trained medical staff to offer personal care throughout the recovery process. Post-op patients are also given his personal cell phone number to contact him in case of problems or questions.
